Region Swim Meet and a NEW CAR!!!

Today was such an awesome day... Paul and I went to McKay's Region Swim Meet and he did SO well! Hopefully we'll get some video uploaded soon so you can all see just how awesome he is. He took first in all of his individual events and both of his relay teams won. His last relay (the 400 freestyle) was the most amazing relay that I've seen since Michael swam for high school. If I could even begin to touch the surface on how fun it was to watch, I would say that McKay swam the anchor leg, he was 3 body lengths behind when he dove in. By the 4th length of the pool he was neck and neck with the two swimmers ahead of him. McKay, "Serpiente de Agua" as Paul called him, came from behind and out-touched everyone for a first place finish. It was seriously awesome. Most people have no idea what goes on at a swim meet, but I can honestly say I've probably had some of my most heartbreaking moments ans some of my most joyful moments at swim meets. I'm kind of a groupie of my brothers and sisters:)

In addition, Paul and I have been looking for a new car that we could easily pay for and drive through grad school. We found a cheap little 2000 Ford Focus and we were able to drive away with less than his asking price. Know anyone that wants a cheap 1999 Dodge Neon?

Well, all in all, we've had a good weekend. Not much happens to us, really. I think Melody should post more pictures of Julia since we live vicariously through other people's children.

The Past Few Weeks....

Ok, so the past few weeks have been absolutely CRAZY with the start of student teaching and indoor track season meets. Both are going well; Paul and I just got home from one of my meets in Pocatello. Because of the 3 day weekend, we were able to relax and stay with some family up in Preston, Idaho and also go to a farewell in Logan. I don't miss Logan one tiny bit- I absolutely HATE to be cold. We did have fun though!

One thing I have loved about track is the fact that my sister, Melynne, is on the team with me. We do totally different events, which is competition-friendly, so we always have someone to be our "cheerleader" and our permanent room/bus partner. It makes road trips sooooooo much nicer. It has also been fun to have Paul as one of my new cheerleaders:)

Some other things we've done in the past couple of weeks:

- Had a game night with our friends Jonny & Melody... we finally found some competition in Mad Gab. So far, we are still undefeated. We also made some awesome pizza and Jonny found an amazing green pepper :)

- We used some of our gift card money to purchase a crepe-maker. I think I've been Graham-i-fied. Which is not a bad thing. I just never had the urge to buy one until now when it seemed like I wouldn't survive another day without it.

- I started my student teaching. So far, so good. 2 weeks down, 8 to go!
- We still haven't taken our Christmas Tree down. Or our wreath on the front door. I managed to turn that into a Valentine's Day wreath at least...

Good News Bad News....

Paul has spent the day working and I'm almost certain that there are plenty of things that I should be doing, however; this is my last day of Christmas Break. So the laundry and the bathroom will have to wait.

One time during a Field Experience or school, I heard a Reader's Theater called "Good News, Bad News." So I am going to recap 2007 in similar fashion.
January:
Bad news- Last year, on January 2nd, I woke up with the most unreal pain in my stomach and had to go to the ER. Parents insurance deductible not met yet.
Good news- Morphine.

February:
Bad news- I decided to get surgery on my left foot since I was already out for the year in track. It was seriously painful and I couldn't even have any visitors.
Good news- I got $1200 dollars for it since it was an experimental medication. Still, compensation was barely enough to make me forget the pain. However- I now have 2 fixed knees and 2 fixed feet. My dad once called me the Million Dollar Baby... I wonder why?

March:
Bad News: My grandpa passed away and we drove to Tennessee for the funeral. (in 2 days. 9 people in a car.)
Good News: My brothers and sisters and I actually enjoyed our trip together. It turned out to be the last one we took as just the King family.

April:
Bad News:
Good News: I turned 22 and finished the Spring semester.

May:
Bad News: I had to start a summer math class. Teaching Math for Elementary Teachers? How boring.
Good News: Paul turned 22 and I threw him a fun surprise party.

June:
Bad News: I started the month out in school, working as a Home Health Aide, teaching swimming lessons, and coaching a rec swim league. Everyday. It got a little hectic!
Good News: I passed my math class on the first try. And I was seriously tan. I love summer:)

July:
Bad News: Its the thick of summer soccer season and I am unable to play.
Good News: I'm still very tan, and teaching lost of swimming lessons. I made some really good friends with the people I taught. The Murphy's and I took our annual hike up to Timp Cave. Paul and I decided to get married.:) We also took a 3 hour trip with our friend Nick to Wyoming to buy *Ahem* legal fireworks.

August:
Bad News: School starts again.
Good News: Paul and I get engaged! I start my senior year of the Education program and finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....

September:
Bad News: Wedding plans... turns out they are kinda stressful. Especially when its school time!
Good News: Turns out I don't keep very good records. I'm sure September was very nice.

October:
Bad News: Wedding plans continue to be stressful!
Good News: I was able to go through the temple for the first time. It was such an awesome experience!

November:
Bad News: Stress. Serious. I don't think I'd ever choose to get married in the middle of the semester ever again.
Good News: Paul and I got married! We had the most amazing sealing ceremony, a delicious luncheon, and a beautiful reception. We were so touched at the display of love and support by our friends and family. By far my favorite part of the year. Oh, and BYU beat Utah. Always a good thing:)

December:
Bad News: It was cold and I'm not really a fan of the cold. We didn't make it to Temple Square this year because of it.
Good News: Everything. We got to spend our first Christmas together.

I think Paul should be getting home soon. Hopefully.

Jigsaws and Sleds....

Welcome 2008! Paul and I seem to resemble an old married couple more and more with each passing day. I think we ended up called it a night around 10:00. The sad thing is, my new brother in law Brad mentioned to us the next day that they didn't call us for games at around 11:30 because they figured we would be in bed... How were we to take that? However, that night being only my 6th to last night before I begin my student teaching, (Who's counting?) I wanted to get some good, homework/lesson planning-less sleep. At any rate... I needed my sleep. Why you ask? Because for the first time in 2 whole years, I was going sledding:)
Usually I am not a huge sledder. I am not frequently thought of as a daredevil. I don't love going fast, and I am especially scared of getting injured. Something about being a part of the NCAA and not being allowed to do winter sports...that could be it, I'm not sure. My overly cautious thought patterns usually play out a graphic scene in my mind of how it would look WHEN (not IF) I either get plowed over by a runaway tube or how I'll look with my body mangled in the snow once I fly out of my sled going 50 mph. Last year I had 2 knee surgeries- one for an obliterated ACL and the other to realign my kneecap. It wasn't pleasant and I do not wish to recreate. And since we are presently uninsured... That didn't however stop Paul from being a jump for Brad...
At any rate, we went to Aunt Margo's Hill and had a great time. And I have recaptured my title as the Fastest Skeleton-Style Sledder and also as the most graceful Snow Angel Maker.

Oh- and this is Paul's cousin Kaylee- her toes were cold. So now my gloves are on them.

On to the first part of the title... (Maybe that should have been first?)
I don't like puzzles. Or I didn't. My sister Melynne has always had a knack for them- she can put together a 500 piece puzzle in -no joke- 45 minutes. We have not actually timed her, but I am betting that is true. Me; on the other hand, it takes the better part of the day for me to do the same size as previously mentioned. Well, my mother-in-law says she puts together a puzzle every Christmas. She did last year when Paul and I were dating, and I helped for about 3 minutes while waiting for Paul to brush his teeth or something. This year I was in it for keeps. Turns out...my heart has been softened concerning puzzles. We put together one of Brigham City in about an hour and a half (ok so Lynnae did most of it-but I was consistent). That wasn't enough. The next day I went to DI and bought 2 more, one 500 pieces and the other 1000. We did them both before New Years (really we did them in less than 30 hours). Puzzle hater no more.

I am not really looking forward to going back to the daily grind in 6 days (who's counting?) but I'll just keep repeating that student teaching is only 10 weeks. Only 10 weeks. Only 10 weeks....

To sum it all up- I have loved Christmas Break. I love my husband. I love my family, both old and new. I love Christmas. I know I've said it before- but it really doesn't get much better than this.
